DESCRIPTION:
APW - Elgin, Veritas 23J with very scarce Montgomery 1920 Patent dial, Grade 453, 16S, 14K OF recase with gold cuvette, SW-LS, WE-SSD, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel arbor, 23J, decorative gold disk around balance jewel setting, fishscale center pattern NI damascene NI damascene, s#22504701. Gross weight of assembled watch 58.1 dwt (90.4 g). This very unusual dial arrangement by H.S. Montgomery was granted US Design Patent 54950 on April 20th, 1920; dials of this design were made for a number of American watch makes but all of these are quite scarce.
CONDITION:
Mvt: GRO, excellent mvt condition overall, typical MFS, mild oxide on regulator assembly; dial is very close to perfect with only a very tiny edge flake under the bezel outside the 57 minute numeral; near mint hands; case shows very little wear, typical MFS, dent to rear side of band at 11, excellent ET detail with mild reduction at shoulders; tight bow, crown shows light wear; clean plastic crystal.
